ArchiTexture Dance Company is a site specific contemporary dance company located in Orange County, California, dedicated to exploring the relationships between architecture, environment, and dancing bodies through site specific performances and multi media dance concerts. The company designs modern dance performances in unusual locations, transforming everyday spaces into artistic venues; all rehearsals are held at the location whenever possible, and the dancers adapt their movements to their surroundings, whether performing on concrete, staircases, or even over water! ArchiTexture Dance Company takes dance off of the proscenium stage, removes the red velvet curtains, and finds performance locations in new environments: historic tallships, libraries, art galleries, and fences have all served as recent settings for rehearsals and performances.
The dancers quickly adjust to each new location, donning tennis shoes, wearing sunblock in rehearsals, learning to climb aloft, and dancing between bookshelves. Deidre Cavazzi, the company's founder, artistic director, and choreographer, uses the location as a muse, basing her choreography on architectural themes and motifs, finding connections between functional and aesthetic elements of the space, and translating what she finds into movement for her dancers. |
